Jodhpur is considered to be the delightful blend of the modern and the traditional also known as the “Blue city” & “Sun City”. Jodhpur is famous for a lot things, among them are blue houses, Mehrangarh Fort, temple, sweets and snacks. Apart from the monumental beauties there are many temples, lakes and shopping streets to visit. It is the second largest city in Rajasthan and was the formal capital of Marwar. Jodhpur is one of the most captivating cities of Rajasthan, with Mehrangarh fort overlooking the entire city. This city was founded by the Rathore clan, formally by Rao Jodha, the chief of Rathore clan in 1459 AD. The city is called blue city because it looks completely blue when looked from the Aerial view due to the blue color painted on the walls and houses. Among the exotic attractions, the magic lies in the hundreds of shops, eating joints, guesthouses, vendors make it a very happening city.

Jodhpur attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors all around the world also, as seen in the backdrop of the movie The Dark Knight Rises. It is conveniently located in the centre of Rajasthan making it very easy and accessible for travelers to travel other parts of the state.

TOP SIGHTSEEINGS

  • Mehrangarh Fort- it is one of the largest forts in the country which is located at a height of 410 feet at elevated hill and surrounded by huge walls. The fort is now converted into museum showcasing the belongings of the royals. 
  • Jaswant Thada- The whole fort is made of white marble and has a small pond and a garden right next to it. 
  • Mandore Garden- it is situated 10 km from the city of Jodhpur. The garden has a ruined fort and palace and cenotaphs which is built resembling of traditional hindu temples. 
  • Umaid Bhawan Palace- This palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929 to cope up with a famine that had hit the state. Now it is voted as one of the best hotels in world, which is also a major tourist attraction. As it is located on Chittar hill, it is sometimes referred as Chittar Palace. It took around 16 years in making and completion.

HOW TO REACH JODHPUR

BY AIR
Jodhpur has a well-functioning airport (JDH) which has direct flights to/fro such as Delhi, Mumbai, Ahemdabad and some more. Traveling by flight can be a little expensive as there are few flights running. 
BY ROAD
Jodhpur has great road connectivity from other parts of the state. You can either book a sleeper bus tickets from Delhi or Ahmedabad these typically have an overnight schedule and drop-off in Jodhpur early morning or choose to travel through your own car. They are quite cheap and comfortable also a good way to reach Jodhpur if you’re not able to get train tickets but wants to do a budget trip.
BY RAIL
Jodhpur railway station has good train connectivity with almost all the major cities in Rajasthan, and from Delhi/Mumbai/Ahmedabad and even Kolkata. From Delhi, taking a train is a very convenient option since you can take an overnight train to reach Jodhpur early morning.
